BotSay has no passwords. You sign in with a 6-digit code that BotSay emails to you, or with a passkey: your fingerprint, face or device PIN. Both start from the same page. Type your Work email and choose Continue.
How do I sign in with an emailed code? #
Type your work email on the sign-in page and choose Continue. BotSay emails you a 6-digit code. Type it in the Code box and choose Sign in.
- The email's subject starts with the code, so you can read it from a notification.
- The email also has a Sign in to BotSay button that does the same thing as typing the code.
- The code and the button work once, for 10 minutes, and only in the browser where you asked for them. If you open the link in a different browser, ask for a new code there.
The page says "If" your address "has a BotSay account, we sent it a 6-digit code." It says the same for every address, so nobody can use the page to find out who has an account.
What if the code does not arrive? #
Check your spam folder first. If it is not there, choose ask for a new code under the Code box and send another. BotSay sends at most 6 codes to one address in an hour, so after that, wait before asking again.
The email goes only to the address you were invited with. If you type a different address, no code is sent. To sign in with a different address, an admin of your workspace has to invite it. See What admins and members can do.
What do the code messages mean? #
- "That code is not right. Check the email and try again." The code was mistyped. When you have one try left, the message says so.
- "That code has expired. Ask for a new one." More than 10 minutes have passed.
- "That code was asked for in another browser. Ask for a new one here." Ask for a code in the browser you want to use.
- "That code was already used. Ask for a new one." Each code works once.
- "Too many wrong codes. Ask for a new one." Ask for a fresh code and type it carefully.
- "Too many tries. Wait a few minutes, then try again." Too many codes were asked for in a short time.
How do I sign in with a passkey? #
Type your work email and choose Continue. If you have used a passkey for BotSay in this browser before, your browser asks for your passkey straight away. Confirm with your fingerprint, face or device PIN and you are in. If it does not ask, choose Use your passkey.
Your browser may also offer your saved passkey as a suggestion when you click the Work email box. Picking it signs you in without a code.
If you would rather use a code, choose Email me a code instead under the passkey button. On a browser where you have never used a passkey for BotSay, the code is sent straight away.
How do I add a passkey? #
Open Your account from the foot of the side menu, find the card headed Passkeys and choose Add a passkey. Your browser or password manager asks you to confirm, and the passkey appears in the list.
- Add a passkey only if you signed in within the last 10 minutes. Otherwise the page says "For your security, sign in again before you add or remove a passkey." Choose Sign out, sign in again, then add it.
- Each passkey stays on your device or in your password manager. BotSay never sees it.
- You can have up to 10 passkeys. Each list row shows when it was added and when it was last used.
- Choose Rename to give a passkey a clearer name, up to 60 characters.
BotSay emails you whenever a passkey is added or removed, so a change you did not make does not go unseen.
How do I remove a passkey? #
On Your account, under Passkeys, choose Remove on the passkey's row, then Remove it to confirm or Keep it to cancel. As with adding one, you need to have signed in within the last 10 minutes. You can still sign in with an emailed code after you remove your last passkey.
If you get an email about a passkey you did not add, sign in, remove it on Your account, and tell your workspace admin.
Why does my passkey not work? #
Passkeys need a full browser. They often fail in a browser built into another app, such as the one some chat and email apps use to open links inside the app. Open BotSay in Safari, Chrome, Edge or Firefox instead, or choose Email me a code instead.
If the page says "This browser cannot use passkeys. Try a recent Chrome, Edge, Firefox or Safari.", the browser does not support passkeys at all. If it says "That didn't work. Try again, or sign in with an email code.", try once more or use a code. A passkey saved on another device works only if your password manager syncs it to this one.
Why was I signed out? #
BotSay signs you out after 2 hours without activity, and after 12 hours in any case. Sign in again with a code or a passkey. To sign out yourself, choose Sign out at the foot of the side menu.
Every new sign-in sends you an email saying when it happened and how, so you notice if someone else gets in.
