Set a target for each measure
An admin sets a target in the Targets section of Setup: type a number for any of the five measures and choose Save targets. Targets are optional, and BotSay never sets one for you.
What is a target? #
A target is a figure you choose for one of the five measures. The Targets section describes it in one line: "Optional. A target is a step you chose, not a grade we give."
BotSay does not fill one in, and a field you leave empty stays without a target. What the five measures mean defines each measure.
Where do I set a target? #
Open Setup, scroll below the cards to Targets, type a number in the row for a measure and choose Save targets.
There is one row per measure, in this order: Mention rate, Share of voice, Average rank, Your pages cited and Sentiment. Each row has a field that reads "No target" until you set one. BotSay confirms a save with "Saved."
What can I type in a field? #
Type a positive number. Typing 28, 28% or #2.8 all read as the number. The mark and the unit belong to the screen: a percent sign sits inside the field for Mention rate, Share of voice and Your pages cited, and a hash sign for Average rank.
Sentiment is a score from 0 to 100, so it has no unit.
For anything else the row says "Enter a positive number, or leave it empty to remove the target." If nothing changed, saving says "Nothing has changed, so there is nothing to save."
How do I change or remove a target? #
Type a new number and choose Save targets. To remove a target, empty the field and save. Only the measures you changed are saved, and the rest stay as they were.
Each save is added to the change log as "Changed targets". What admins and members can do explains where to read the log.
What does a target change on screen? #
A target adds one marker, on the track under that measure's name in Targets. The track shows where your figure sits, and the marker shows where your target sits. A row without a target has no track.
A target does not change any figure, any likely range or any past week. No other screen reads it today.
Average rank improves as the number falls, so its track is drawn with first place at the full end.
What does the sentence under each measure say? #
It says where you are, where the leader is and a next step you could reasonably reach. For example, for Mention rate: "You are at 12.0%. The leader is at 20.0%. A reachable next step: 16%".
The step is about halfway to the leader, rounded to a clean number that is still ahead of you and not past the leader. When there is no step, the row says why: "you lead", "level with the leader", "No rival has a figure this week" or "You have no figure this week".
Sentiment is an estimate, so its row names the leader and suggests no step.
What is the difference between a suggestion and a target? #
A suggestion is a sentence BotSay writes. A target is the number you typed and saved.
BotSay never fills a field from a suggestion and has no button that does. Every field starts from the target you set, or empty. You type the number, and that is the choice.
Who can set targets? #
Only admins can set targets. A member does not see the Targets section on Setup.
A member who opens the screen sees "This page is for workspace admins." and "Members can read everything and do the work. Managing people, engines and targets is for admins." Roles are covered in What admins and members can do.
